At the end of 2025, EEEC's largest subsidiary – EDG West – received EUR 12.7 million under the EU Modernisation Fund. The funds represent reimbursement of costs already incurred for the procurement of smart electricity meters, which are a core component of the subsidiary's long-term programme for the digitalisation and modernisation of the electricity distribution network.
As a result of this investment, the total number of smart meters installed in the EDG West network has reached 1 million units.
The total funding approved for EDG West under the Modernisation Fund for the programming period 2023–2026 amounts to EUR 39 million, allocated as follows:
- EUR 30 million for the purchase of smart electricity meters.
- EUR 9 million for a Meter Data Management (MDM) system, which will enable centralised management, analysis, and secure storage of data generated by metering devices.
The rest funds will be utilized in phases over the next two years. These investments are expected to contribute to:
- more accurate and transparent measurement of electricity consumption.
- faster detection and localisation of network outages.
- improved planning and management of network assets.
- enhanced customer service and customer information.
The project is a key element of EDG West’s strategic vision to develop an intelligent, sustainable, and digitally managed electricity distribution network, fully aligned with modern European requirements and the growing expectations of customers.
EDG West expects approval by the Investment Committee of the Modernisation Fund of the financing proposed by the company for the next programming period 2027–2028.
